Iron Man 3 PDF Print E-mail

Tony Stark uses his ingenuity to fight those who destroyed his private world and soon goes up against his most powerful enemy yet: the Mandarin.

Tony Stark finds himself facing his most powerful enemy yet when he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible for destroying his private world. Along the way, he discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: "Does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?"

Co-writer/director Shane Black begins the Mainland China portion of his Iron Man 3 shoot today, even though Marvel remains in the process of filing for co-producer status (alongside the film’s Chinese distributor, DMG Entertainment). Deadline is confirming that Wang has joined the production, but describes his involvement as “a new character” referred to as Dr. Wu (who is not expected to play “a huge part” in the proceedings).

Now, this update doesn’t, per se, discount the Radioactive Man theory entirely. For starters, Marvel heads like their secrets and are willing to go the whole nine yards to preserve them. (Remember those denials that Kingsley is the main villain in IM3?) Moreover, when Lau was onboard, his role was said to be (via Twitch) “a Chinese scientist who comes to the aid of his old buddy Tony Stark”; it wasn’t until after his departure that the Chen Lu claims popped up. That might mean the role has been altered for Wang; it could also mean that “Dr. Wu” is just a cover meant to keep the seasoned Chinese actor’s (whom Deadline calls “the Sean Connery of China”) real identity in the film under wraps.

Wang Xueqi is playing ‘Dr. Wu’ in ‘Iron Man 3′

Wang playing Radioactive Man also makes sense from a shared movie universe perspective, as the character does have a hot/cold relationship with Ant-Man from the comics due to his shifting alliances over the years (and there remains a strong chance the IM3 post-credits scene will introduce Henry Pym). Either way, it’s long been acknowledged that Wang won’t be a major player in the third Iron Man flick; though, again, that raises questions concerning why a Chinese A-lister is being recruited for a bit role – unless, it could blossom into something bigger in the future…

Taken 2 PDF Print E-mail

by Philip Sticco | Latino Review

I’m still surprised at how well Taken did at the box office. I liked it, but I never thought it would gross $145 million domestically.

The first poster for the inevitable sequel, cleverly titled Taken 2, has debuted over at Empire, but you can see it below.

Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.

From that synopsis it seems like this should be title Taken Too.

Taken 2 hits theatres October 5th.

Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

The remake is directed by Len Wiseman and stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bill Nighy, John Cho, Ethan Hawke and Bryan Cranston. Total Recall will open in theaters on August 3rd, 2012.
